10 Reasons Why Vitamin C is a Must-Have for Mature Skin

Vitamin C is a must-have ingredient for mature skin, loved for its anti-ageing and skin glowing properties. Even better, this ingredient can be embraced by all skin types and below we take a look at the long list of benefits Vitamin C has for mature skin.

Antioxidant

Vitamin C is an antioxidant that helps protect the skin from free radical damage caused by environmental factors such as UV radiation and pollution. These free radicals contribute to premature ageing and can accelerate the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and age spots. Vitamin C neutralizes these free radicals, promoting a healthier complexion.

Collagen production

Vitamin C is essential for collagen synthesis, a protein that provides structure and elasticity to the skin. As we age, collagen production naturally declines, leading to sagging and wrinkling of the skin. By incorporating vitamin C into your mature skincare routine, you can help boost collagen production and maintain a firmer, more youthful complexion.

Hydrates

Mature skin tends to be drier and more prone to moisture loss. Vitamin C plays a role in maintaining the skin's barrier function, enhancing its ability to retain moisture. By incorporating vitamin C into your skincare routine, you can improve hydration levels, resulting in plumper, more supple skin.

Brightens skin

Age spots, sunspots, and hyperpigmentation are common concerns for mature skin. Vitamin C has been shown to inhibit melanin production, the pigment responsible for dark spots. Regular use of vitamin C can help fade existing dark spots and even out the skin tone, resulting in a brighter, more radiant complexion.

Before and after using vitamin c on pigmentation

Reduces redness

Vitamin C is an anti-inflammatory meaning it can soothe skin, reducing redness and inflammation. Vitamin C can also be used to help soothe skin from sunburn due to its ability to repair damage from UV radiation.

Reduces age spots and hyperpigmentation

Vitamin C helps to speed up cell renewal and inhibit melanin synthesis as it can block further discolouration. It’s a hero ingredient for lightening and brightening dark spots and pigmentation.

Reduces the appearance of under-eye circles

Due to Vitamin C’s brightening properties, applying a Vitamin C product to the under eye area not only brightens the area but also helps to plump fine lines and wrinkles.

Reduces appearance of fine lines and wrinkles

Vitamin C's collagen-boosting properties help plump the skin and reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Additionally, it promotes cell turnover, aiding in the exfoliation of dead skin cells and revealing smoother, younger-looking skin.

Helps repair skin and promote wound healing

Vitamin C is involved in the production of new skin cells and supports the skin's natural repair process. It can help speed up the healing of wounds, scars, and blemishes, allowing for a faster recovery and improved overall skin texture.

It can help prevent skin sagging

Crepey and sagging skin can be drastically improved with the addition of Vitamin C into a mature skincare routine due to its ability to boost collagen production. Increased collagen production promotes firmer and more toned skin, resulting in an overall tightening effect.
